Quick Kit Selection

Which Thread Repair Kit Do You Need?

Start from the repair situation and existing tool inventory. A buyer who already owns the correct STI taps and installation tools does not need the same kit format as a first-time repair user or distributor building a retail range.

One Known Stripped Thread Start with a single-size complete kit matched to the exact thread and repair system.
Workshop Repairs Several Sizes Use a multi-size assortment built around the thread sizes actually repaired most often.
Tools Already Available Order refill inserts rather than duplicating STI taps, drills and installation tools.
Frequent Industrial Repair Use a professional kit with higher insert counts, refill stock and planned replacement tools.
Distributor Resale Review retail case layout, size assortment, barcode, instructions and refill SKU structure.
OEM After-Sales Program Use a controlled kit specification with fixed components, labels, documentation and repeat-order parts.
Tang-Free Requirement Use a tangless kit only with the matched tang-free insert and compatible installation tool system.
Unknown or Severe Damage Review the damaged hole and parent material before selecting a kit; do not choose from nominal size alone.
Need help choosing a kit? Compare complete kits, refills, compatible tools and purchasing criteria in our Thread Repair Kit Buying Guide. For bulk or private-label orders, send your required sizes and packaging details for review.

Complete Repair System

What Should a Complete Wire Insert Repair Kit Include?

A complete kit should be evaluated as one matched repair system. Exact contents vary by thread size, insert design, hole-preparation method and buyer requirement; not every kit needs every component below.

Important: exact kit contents vary by product and size. Do not assume that every thread repair kit always includes the same drill, tang tool, extractor or packaging format.

Metric single-size and assortment kits

Common Metric Thread Repair Kit Sizes: M5, M6, M8, M10 & M12

Choose the finished screw-thread size and pitch before selecting the STI tap, insertion tool and insert lengths. These are common metric coarse-thread examples for industrial repair kit sourcing, not a claim that every kit or component is stocked as a fixed SKU. Fine-thread and drawing-specific configurations can also be quoted.

M12 × 1.751.75 mm1D / 1.5D / 2DM12 insert and kit options →
Typical metric assortment: M5 × 0.8, M6 × 1.0, M8 × 1.25, M10 × 1.5 and M12 × 1.75. For each size, specify the number of wire inserts and the matched STI tap and insertion tool. Drill bits, tang tools, extractors, case layout and refill packs are selected in the approved bill of materials. A complete kit must use a compatible insert, STI tap and installation system; a standard metric tap is not interchangeable with an STI tap.

Metric and Inch Repair Kits

Metric, UNC and UNF Thread Repair Kits

Thread standard must be defined before kit assembly because the insert, STI tap, drill or hole-preparation requirement and installation tool all depend on the same thread system.

Metric Thread Repair Kits

Single-size and multi-size metric kits can be configured by nominal size, pitch, insert length, insert type, tool allocation and refill structure.

View metric repair kits →

UNC Thread Repair Kits

Unified coarse kits should specify the exact inch thread designation, TPI, insert length, tanged/tangless system and complete tool package.

UNF Thread Repair Kits

Unified fine kits require the exact fine-thread TPI and matched insert, STI tap and installation tooling. Do not substitute UNC components.

Specify the exact thread before ordering. For a wider metric assortment and matched tooling options, visit our Metric Thread Repair Kits page. For UNC or UNF kits, include the nominal inch size, TPI, insert length and tool requirements in your RFQ.

Custom Insert Material Options

Stainless Steel and Special-Alloy Inserts for Thread Repair Kits

The wire thread inserts inside a repair kit can be specified by alloy as well as thread size. The STI tap, drill and installation tools remain separately selected for tool compatibility; specifying an alloy for the insert does not mean that every tool in the kit uses that alloy.

Stainless Steel Wire Inserts

Standard and customer-specified stainless steel grades, including 201, 301, 304 and 316, can be reviewed according to the intended application.

Inconel X-750 Inserts

Quote requests may specify Alloy X-750 (UNS N07750) for selected high-temperature applications. Wire sourcing, forming and finished-part requirements are checked per order.

Nitronic 60 and Nimonic 90

Material-specific requests involving Nitronic 60 (UNS S21800) or Nimonic 90 (UNS N07090) can be evaluated for the insert component.

Phosphor Bronze and Other Alloys

Phosphor bronze, selected titanium alloys and other buyer-specified wire materials can be discussed when drawings, dimensions and quantities are provided.

Need a specific alloy? Browse the Wire Thread Insert Materials Guide for additional international material names. Include the exact alloy grade or UNS number, insert specification and certificate requirement in your RFQ. Special-alloy availability, suitability and documentation are confirmed before an order is accepted.

Configuration Matrix

What Must Be Confirmed Before Building the Kit

A complete component specification is required before pricing, sample assembly or private-label artwork approval.

Configuration Item Buyer Should Confirm Why It Matters Status Before Quote
Thread standard Metric, UNC, UNF or another specified thread system. Controls all matched insert, drill and STI tap specifications. Required
Size and pitch Nominal diameter with metric pitch or inch TPI. Prevents coarse/fine-thread and diameter mismatches. High risk if missing
Insert length 1D, 1.5D, 2D, 2.5D, 3D or reviewed custom length. Affects engagement depth, insert count and case identification. Must define
Insert type Free-running, screw-locking, tanged or tangless. Changes installation tooling and tang-handling requirements. Application review
Insert material Stainless steel 201, 301, 304, 316, Inconel X-750, Nitronic 60 or another customer-specified wire insert alloy after review. Affects availability, application suitability, price and documents. Confirm before quote

Repair kits for aluminum components

Choosing a Thread Repair Kit for Aluminum & Stripped Threads

A helical wire insert repair kit can restore a specified internal screw thread in suitable aluminum parts, provided the remaining parent material, hole geometry, loading and access are appropriate. The insert is typically a different material from the aluminum component: specify the mating screw, parent metal, exposure conditions and insert alloy rather than assuming every kit works in every aluminum housing.

Damaged aluminum bolt hole

Record the original metric or UNC/UNF thread, measure the damage and check wall thickness and usable depth. Match the kit drill guidance, STI tap and insert to the approved repair system.

Repeated assembly or softer parent metal

Wire thread inserts can be specified for thread reinforcement when the assembly design permits. Choose the required pitch, installed length and fastener engagement against the engineering drawing.

Oversized or previously repaired hole

Do not assume a standard wire insert kit can repair every enlarged or fractured hole. Confirm remaining material and allowable STI thread size; a different insert system or engineered repair may be needed.

For industrial and distributor quotations: identify the aluminum alloy or part, finished thread, hole condition, insert style, repair-kit tool list and quantity. Standard metric kit assortments and custom single-size packs can be reviewed with matching STI tooling and refill requirements.

Kit Size Strategy

Single-Size vs Multi-Size Thread Repair Kits

More sizes do not automatically make a better kit. The correct assortment should follow the actual repair market, customer equipment and repeat-order pattern.

Single size

Single-Size Repair Kit

  • Built around one exact nominal thread and pitch/TPI.
  • Clear tool-to-insert matching.
  • Efficient for known repairs and dedicated service programs.
  • Easier refill planning for one controlled SKU.
  • Suitable for distributor products built around common high-demand sizes.
Assortment

Multi-Size Assortment Kit

  • Combines multiple sizes in one organized case.
  • Useful for workshops, maintenance teams and broad distributor ranges.
  • Each size still needs its own matched insert and tool specification.
  • Case layout and identification become more important.
  • Size selection should follow real repair demand rather than maximum count.

Repeat Purchase Structure

Complete Repair Kit vs Refill Insert Pack

Complete kits solve the first repair-tool requirement. Refill packs support the repeat-order cycle after the buyer already owns the correct tooling.

Swipe horizontally to view the full table →

Item Complete Kit Refill Pack Commercial Role
Wire Inserts Yes Yes Core consumable
STI Tap Normally specified No Initial tool purchase / replacement tool if worn
Installation Tool Normally specified No Reusable tool
Drill / Hole Preparation Depends on kit No Reusable or replaceable tool
Tang Tool / Extractor If required No Reusable service tool
Primary Buyer First-time repair user, workshop, distributor Existing tool owner Defines initial sale vs repeat purchase
Repeat Order Frequency Usually lower Usually higher Refill SKU planning supports recurring sales

Insert System

Tanged vs Tangless Thread Repair Kits

Tanged and tangless kits use different installation systems. The kit must be built around the actual insert design rather than assuming the tools are interchangeable.

Tanged Repair Kit

  • Tanged wire inserts.
  • Matched STI tap and hole-preparation requirement.
  • Tanged installation mandrel or prewinder.
  • Tang-break tool when tang removal is required.
  • Extractor or service tool if specified.

View tanged inserts →

Tangless Repair Kit

  • Tang-free / tangless-style wire inserts.
  • Matched STI tap and hole-preparation requirement.
  • Dedicated compatible tangless installation tool.
  • No break-off tang tool in the normal tangless workflow.
  • Existing-system compatibility review when replacing a branded system.

View tangless inserts →

Industrial Kit Design

Basic Assortment vs Professional / Industrial Repair Kit

Professional kits should be evaluated by specification control, refill planning, tool durability, spare-part support and sample approval rather than by component count alone.

Swipe horizontally to view the full table →

Check Basic Assortment Professional / Industrial Kit Buyer Value
Insert Identification Often basic size labeling Controlled SKU, size, pitch, length and type identification Reduces wrong-part selection
STI Tap Specification Must be verified Matched and controlled against the insert system Reduces incomplete repair sets
Tool Durability General-purpose Selected for repeat workshop or production-adjacent use Better fit for frequent repair cycles
Spare Parts May be limited Replacement taps, mandrels, tang tools or extractors can be planned Lower downtime
Refill SKU May be unclear Defined refill insert packs by size and length Supports repeat purchase
Case Layout Generic Buyer-approved component layout and identification Improves control and resale presentation
Sample Approval Often limited Recommended before bulk production Confirms real component fit and packing

OEM Packaging and Approval

OEM and Private-Label Thread Repair Kits for Wholesale Supply

Industrial distributors and brand owners can request custom assortment sizes, private-label cases, barcode labels, replacement inserts and standardized repeat-order kits. A physical sample helps confirm tool matching, insert counts, case layout and labeling before bulk production; drawings and price sheets alone cannot establish these details.

Private-Label Capability

Retail and Distributor Packaging

  • Plastic or metal storage-case review
  • Internal tray, divider and component layout
  • Private-label logo and product-name placement
  • Barcode, item code and market-language requirements
  • Instruction sheet and safety-note review
  • Insert-count and tool-size verification
  • Refill-pack structure for repeat sales
  • Outer carton and shipping-mark requirements
Confirm technical specifications Define every thread size, pitch, insert length, insert type, drill bit, STI tap and installation tool.
Confirm kit layout and artwork Review the case, tray, insert count, label, barcode, logo, instruction sheet and language.
Confirm refill and replacement structure Define refill inserts, replacement STI taps, mandrels, tang tools or other repeat-order parts before finalizing the retail range.
Produce one complete sample kit Assemble the actual components and packaging rather than approving only a rendering or component list.
Inspect component compatibility Verify the drill bit, STI tap, insert and installation tools belong to the same repair-size system.
Run a practical trial check Confirm the complete repair sequence, case identification and user instructions on the approved sample before bulk production.
Approve the sample for bulk production Confirm the physical sample in writing before production, printing and final kit assembly.

Repeat Order Ecosystem

Replacement Tools, Refill Inserts and Repeat-Order Parts

A repair-kit program should not end with the first kit sale. Define the parts that users will consume, wear out or replace so the product range remains serviceable.

Refill Inserts Repeat-order packs by thread size, pitch/TPI, insert length and type.
Replacement STI Tap Match the original repair system exactly before quoting a replacement tap.
Replacement Drill / Hole Tool Review the approved receiving-hole preparation rather than assuming a generic drill.
Installation Mandrel Match the insert system, tanged/tangless design, size and existing tool body.
Tang-Break Tool For tanged kits where tang removal is required by the application.
Extractor For service and correction where the selected removal method is part of the kit program.
Case / Tray Parts Replacement internal tray, dividers or component identification for established programs.
Labels / Barcodes Repeat printing for distributor or private-label programs with controlled item codes.
Compatibility rule: replacement tools and mandrels must be reviewed against the actual insert and tool system. Do not assume interchangeability from thread size or visual similarity alone.

Product FAQ

Thread Repair Kit Ordering Questions

Does Taiyi supply wholesale thread repair kits for distributors?

Yes. We review single-size and assorted repair kits, refill insert packs, industrial repair kits and private-label kit programs for bulk and repeat supply. Send your required thread sizes, tool list, packaging specification, expected order quantity and destination market for a quotation.

Can thread repair kits include Inconel X-750 or other special-alloy inserts?

Customers may specify Inconel X-750 (UNS N07750), Nitronic 60, Nimonic 90 or another alloy for the wire insert component. We assess wire material sourcing, forming suitability, matched tools, inspection and any documentation request before confirming a custom kit.

What is normally included in a thread repair kit?

A complete kit may include wire thread inserts, a matched drill bit, STI tap, installation tool, tang break tool, extractor, case, instruction sheet and refill inserts. The exact contents depend on the kit specification.

Can a standard tap be used instead of an STI tap?

No. A wire thread insert requires a correctly sized STI thread. A standard tap does not create the correct receiving thread for the wire insert.

What is the difference between a repair kit and a refill pack?

A repair kit normally includes the tools required to prepare and repair the thread. A refill pack normally contains replacement inserts for a user who already owns the matched drill bit, STI tap and installation tools.

Can Taiyi supply single-size and assorted metric kits?

Yes. Single-size kits and assorted metric kits can be reviewed. The buyer should define the size range, insert quantity per size, insert length, tool allocation and packaging format.

Can the kit use free-running or screw-locking inserts?

Both configurations can be reviewed. The insert type, tanged or tangless design, installation tools and end application must be confirmed before the kit is finalized.

Can private-label cases and packaging be supplied?

Private-label requirements can include the case, internal layout, logo, label, barcode, item code, instruction sheet, outer carton and refill-pack structure. Commercial feasibility depends on the specification and production quantity.

Why is a physical sample kit required?

A physical sample allows the buyer to verify the actual component sizes, tool fit, insert count, case layout, label, barcode and instruction sheet before bulk production.

Should I buy a single-size kit or a multi-size assortment?

Choose a single-size kit when the target repair thread is known and repeated. Choose an assortment when the workshop or distributor needs several common sizes. The assortment should follow real repair demand rather than simply maximizing the number of sizes.

What is different about a tangless thread repair kit?

A tangless kit uses a tang-free wire insert and a compatible tangless installation tool. It does not use the normal tang-break step of a conventional tanged insert system. Existing tangless tool compatibility should be reviewed before substitution.

Can I reorder only the worn tap, mandrel or other kit tool?

Replacement tools can be reviewed against the exact insert, thread specification, tanged/tangless system and existing tool format. Do not order replacement mandrels or front-end parts from thread size alone when compatibility is controlled.

How long does production normally take?

Standard production normally requires approximately 20–30 days after the technical and commercial details are confirmed. Custom cases, printed labels, special components or complex packaging may require additional time.

Are Taiyi kits official HELICOIL repair kits?

No. Taiyi supplies generic wire thread insert repair kits and related tools. HELICOIL is a trademark of its respective owner.
